NYC car crash kills 5

An automobile involved in a single-vehicle crash took the lives of five people, including two children. It happened near the Van Wyck Expressway in the Queens borough of NY.

An SUV flipped over before bursting into flames after it smashed into a concrete pillar, killing three women and two children. The vehicle ended up to a mangled mess.

The driver, with another passenger and a child, were hospitalized.

The witnesses told the Daily News that the vehicle was speeding and blew through two red lights.

“All I saw was headlights,” Ryan Jardine, 24, a motorist traveling north, told the News. “She ran the light, almost hit us and then hit the pole.”

He also added: “We saw the car just hit the pole and it went into a somersault.” “It just started flipping. It was horrible.”

All three women were declared dead, as were an 8-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy.

Firefighters extricated victims with jaws-of-life tools while putting out the fire.

No identifications have been released.
